A stone mason carries out stone masonry, which is the craft of shaping rough pieces of natural stone or rock into accurate geometrical shapes.

The mason may use granite stone, limestone or sandstone to create paving, patios or walls.

The shapes the stonemason creates are mostly simple, but on occasion may be of some considerable complexity.

The stone mason then arranges the resulting cut stones most often using  mortar to form structures.

The stonemason creates new stone walls, granite window cills and granite steps.

The stonemason also carries out restoration work on old buildings and period residences.

The job may require refurbishing the original cut granite.

This can be traditional grey granite or yellow granite or even white granite which needs to be restored.
